Here's our social business plan template. Every business will need something slightly different, but it's a good starting point.
If you're good on Microsoft Word, you'll be able to keep the formatting of headings etc, and then automatically update the Table of Contents. If you're not good on Word, just ignore that last sentence and do the best you can!

Great templates Rob. Might be worth thinking about how you use the templates to help the planner think through why 'social enteprise'?
I also think that the main benefit of the planning process is having conversations about ideas and listening to others test them out and push back. Have you thought about helping planners to have conversations with stakeholders as part of the planning process?
Also might be useful to re-emphasise that the most valuable part of the business plan is the process and this does not end when the plan is 'done'.

Good points Mike. I certainly agree that the process is of more value than the final "product". The idea behind the template is to offer people a basic framework for organising the hundreds of thoughts that they'll have at start-up stage. The process can also help people to challenge for themselves some of their more crazy ideas. But yes, my work on this is very much work in progress, so any ideas like this much appreciated.
Thanks
Rob

I've been writing our business plan for the last several months and have just completely cut it to bits and thrown it back together to follow your template because it makes so much SENSE.
Suddenly, I seem to have more work to do on our business now than I did a month ago, but it's worth it because we'll get a much clearer, plain English and relevant plan for our social enterprise (Touchwood Project, eco holidays in Orkney, in case anyone's interested).
So thank you for this, and for all your posts that I'm not beavering my way through. Keep it up, please!

Hi Rachel
that's great to hear - thanks. I'm glad you like the values exercise too - it's a good one. Thanks for the encouraging comments - best of luck with your business too.

I just love the theme and the detail you went to. Everything was so well coordinated and looked so aestehtically pleasing to the eye. Such fun for a two year old.

Nice template- considering it for an iPhone application with a focus on Social Development (meaning users will have a say in how the app is formed). Do you think this template applies?
